There are so many interesting/WTHey things going on around us every day. SRK said something that made me smirk and laugh him off as another opportunist. Shiv Sainiks went on rampage and I didn’t care because that was expected. Udhav Thackaray has taken it upon himself to represent all Indians against SRK. While the SRK-MNS story is crying to be torn apart, I want to talk about something more exciting.
These days I am swamped with work and with back-to-back Harry Potter reading. I am at book 5 and immensely enjoying the ride! But this post if not even about HP. Midway through one of the books, I got the urge to watch the Star Screen awards that were held sometime last month. Pinkvilla here has the whole video.
The awards started with technical presentations, best sound, editing, special effects, screenplay, story etc. Most of these people who were awarded just strode up the stage, collected their awards and left. Well most, except Raju Hirani and party who were awarded for the best story(or screenplay, I can see Chetan Bhagat getting a little green here). Raju went up there and spoke for a few seconds and thanked his crew. I was shocked. You don’t let those technical people (best cinematographer, best choreographer, even best playback singers) who won awards to speak, but you let Raju Hirani do that, why? Because he is a big name director? Waah re worship of the wealthy!
Shahid and Madhavan were hosting one particular section where Shahid tries to mimic Aamir and when he eventually says something to the effect that Aamir ‘sir’ makes everybody else look like an idiot when his movies release because they are so great, I threw up a little bit. There is a hall full of exceptionally talented people like Dev Anand, AB, Nandita Das, SRK, Jaya Bachchan, Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, Shabana, and you say everyone feels like an idiot when an Aamir film makes it to the screens? Really? Shouldn’t you have checked with them before?
Then there was the part where some Star TV guy and Jaya Bachchan were invited to present Ramnath Goenka memorial award to Nandita Das. Nandita seemed to be genuinely surprised and sounded really happy in her acceptance speech. All this while Jaya was looking at that Star guy, and I did not understand why. Then it came, the Star guy walked to the microphone and said something like Jaya Bachchan is the greatest actress of our and our kids’ times! Here was nandita on stage to receive an award for her movie, and this guy talks about how great Jaya is? Poor Nandita, who was on her way back to her seat stopped and grabbed the microphone and said yes I have the utmost respect for Jaya di!
After every intermission the hosts said something like ‘Welcome to the 16th annual nokia star screen awards, for highlights please text blah blah from your nokia phone’!
When it came to awarding the best child actor, I almost thought bundha in child garb AB would get it and he would hop on stage in his Auro avatar…..thankfully that did not happen 🙂 and the other (real) child actor from Paa won! It was cute to see him say this award is for my mummy and pappa 🙂
These awards, like any other were overloaded with Bachchan mania. Argh! The Bachchans were later given the best jodi award. The Bachahan men, along with SRK and Shahid were up on stage and AB senior was trying to teach them all a few moves and the Bachchan ladies were sending them flying kisses! At this point I clicked on the big red X in the left hand corner of my screen and closed my laptop and went back to my reading!
