So did you guys watch Raavan yet? While we were still debating as to whether we should watch Raavan or Raavanan or Villain(the Telugu version), out come a slew of reviews from rediff.
One review calls itself the rediff review, and gives Raavanan 3 stars and the hindi version 2 stars. Beloved Raja Sen totally trashes the movie and gives it 2 stars, asking his readers to basically skip all versions, and another rediff reviewer Aseem Chabra writes a rave review, giving it 4 stars. Hain? So one person found it totally not worth his time, and another found it totally amazing. Now what are we poor souls, who actually rely on reviews to decide whether burn their hard earned money on movies are to do?
Looking at the few scenes that are shown on the television, I want to watch it for AB and Vikram, but want to skip it because Aishwarya’s so-called acting(her making weird faces at the camera) scares the hell out of me! And I secretly pray(I know it is really bad to do so) that Raavan is not the big hit AB and family hope it will be, simply because I don’t want to see their pompous selves strut around come awards time, and don’t want to see them get cosy on stage! Yeah, I am mean like that!
By the way, do any of you believe that reviewers are paid by big production houses to write good stuff about their movies? One person I know never to believe about a movie is Raja Sen. Remember his reviews of MNIK and 3 Idiots? His gist of MNIK was that it was SRK’s gift to humanity and he trashed 3 Idiots. But most people I have spoken to loved 3 Idiots, and we all know exactly how many people liked MNIK. Also, do note that he gave Tashan 3 stars. Now the question is, do we really think Raavan is worse than Tashan? I leave it to you to figure that out. For now, out household is still confused about which version to watch. Suggestions?
Watch any version but please write its review. I wanna watch Hindi version but am just waiting for some good review. 🙂
Sorry Amy. Did not watch yet. I don’t mind writing a review without watching 😉
Yet to watch… the reviews have been so-so…
Yes. You should review it if you do happen to watch.
About the reviews, I do think there is definite industry influence there if not all out bribing. One publishing group has a scheme where they buy equity in a company in exchange for articles in thier publications (which do not appear under the ‘sponsored feature’ label but as regular news). I’ve had a small glimpse into how the film journo thing works and it seems very symbiotic with the industry… with the bigger stars or directors, journos might feel pressured not to completely panning their movies for fear of never getting a quote again. This is an issue for journalism in general actually, not jsut film journos but I think film journos face it a bit more. Moreover, since film ads are big revenue for some publications, the marketing department tends to get leant on by the directors/distribution houses who in turn lean on the editors. So I wouldn’t trust the reviews in India completely, especially the ones are that are overly gushy.
Wow so it is not entirely made up that reviewers are ‘bought’! I guess the only good reviews are ones by bloggers. You can bribe 100 reviewers, but you cannot track and bribe the thousands of bloggers.
You’re right – there is a mixed response to Raavan / Raavanan. One reviewer of the The Hindu totally canned it. A few lines ” Abhishek Bachchan thinks if he scratches his head long enough, he will turn into Beera”. Another one (and I simply love this!)” Aishwarya Rai turns in a restrained performance by her plastic standards”. I refuse to go see the Hindi version. Cant bear both the Bachchans in one film. I may go to see the Tamil version. I think already some controversy is brewing on the Hindi version with Big B saying that they didn’t edit the movie properly and so Small B’s role got affected. Har! Har! Har!
Btw, I saw MNIK and I got the most awful headache. I had to take a crocin. I swear this is true!
Oh god will Amitabh stop protecting his son so much. It is this attitude that makes so many people hate the family. They are full of themselves all the frikking time! Haha you really got a headache? Poor you!
From the music and crap trailer i would say dont go for it, there are better movies to be seen. Trust me you wont regret. 🙂
Yeah we didn’t go. Probably will watch Rajneeti instead.
I am also wondering about this , and if it has made the mark or not! Tch! had such hopes!
Nono, now I am sure it is not worth out time. I think he got too wrapped up in AB and Aishwarya and ruined the movie. Same with Guru!
i dont like bollywood movies..so many singing so many dance…aghh…
Don’t know about the reviews yet but lots of stories are cropping up about the movie: Big b criticizing the editing, Jr B making false claims about doing a stunt !!
Gosh Big B should let his son grow up already!
alll i have read is the reviews that are thrashing it specially the hindi one… sigh
I am fine with a sub par movie, hell, I still watch all the David Dhavan ones and laugh, but I don”t like people making movies just to showcase a couple. So NO Raavan!
God! This is so confusing no 🙂
I heard that the Telugu version is good from my colleagues 🙂 🙂
Yes I heard telugu and tamil are good. Makes me think that the reason for hindi to suck is AB?
I go by word of mouth too. Or by the story…some I want to watch coz I love the actors 😀
Yes yes! I didn’t even care about the reviews when I went to watch 3 Idiots. I need to feel the movie and the actors, don’t care about reviews!
